We represented Mrs S, a nurse who sustained life-changing injuries following a head-on road traffic collision. Her injuries included severe pelvic fractures, spinal injuries, fractured ribs and sternum, multiple haematomas, and significant psychological trauma, leaving her unable to return to her nursing career.

An early admission of liability allowed us to secure substantial interim payments and immediate rehabilitation support. Funding was obtained for home adaptations, mobility equipment, physiotherapy, psychological treatment, and vocational rehabilitation. Through careful case management and expert evidence, we secured compensation of just under £1 million to support Mrs S’s long-term recovery and future needs.

We represented Mr B, a delivery driver who sustained a serious crush injury after a heavy table fell onto his hand whilst carrying out removals work. The injury resulted in the amputation of his right middle finger, leaving him with reduced grip strength and dexterity.

After other firms declined to take on the claim, we secured an admission of liability and obtained expert prosthetics evidence recommending a functional prosthesis to improve the use of his hand. Compensation was successfully recovered to fund the recommended prosthetic support and assist Mr B with his long-term recovery and future quality of life.

We acted for Mr H, who sustained severe spinal cord injuries whilst carrying out renovation works using a Kango drill. During the works, he struck a live electrical cable that had not been identified on site plans, causing him to be thrown several metres through the air.

The accident resulted in spinal cord compression and long-term deterioration affecting his mobility and use of his arm and leg. Liability and medical causation were heavily disputed, with the defendant arguing the symptoms were linked to pre-existing conditions rather than the accident itself.

We obtained extensive expert medical evidence from neurosurgical, spinal injury, rehabilitation, and occupational therapy specialists to establish causation and assess the long-term impact of the injuries. Following a joint settlement meeting, compensation of almost £500,000 was secured for the client.

Assisting CEO Grant Fowler, we acted in the Court of Appeal case of Smith v S Notaro Ltd & Anr. The claimant was required to move heavy loads across uneven surfaces at a building site without adequate manual handling training.

The case examined whether the employer had breached the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and whether responsibility for the unsafe conditions should also extend to the site owner.

The Court of Appeal held that the employer had failed to provide adequate training and therefore breached its duties under the Regulations. However, liability was shared due to the unsafe condition of the premises. The case remains an important authority in employer liability claims involving manual handling injuries and workplace safety obligations.
