Have you been involved in Road Traffic Accident which wasn’t your fault? Did the driver leave the scene of the accident or were they uninsured?
Thanks to the Motor Insurance Bureau as a motorist, cyclist or pedestrian you can be compensated for injuries caused by negligent uninsured and/or untraced drivers.
Have you been a victim of an illegal motorist?
If you have suffered an injury you may be feeling victimised and upset. You may rightfully feel that it is unfair that you have been the victim of an accident caused by an illegal motorist.
It is often thought that if you do not know who caused your injury that you cannot make a claim for compensation. This is not the case. The MIB will compensate victims of hit and run accidents where an injury has been caused by a motorist who failed to stop at the scene of the accident and any other type of motor accident where the identity of the person who caused the accident is unknown.
They will also provide compensation if the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident is uninsured. Again, it is regularly considered that if the person at fault is not insured that there isn’t anything you can do to recover compensation for any injury and loss sustained; but you can. You are entitled to make a claim to the MIB in both these circumstances under the relevant Department of Transport Agreements.
The MIB enables you to claim compensation for your injuries and expenses to try and provide you with the opportunity to be put back in the position you were had the accident not occurred. However, it is important that your accident must have been reported to the police no later than 14 days after the accident date or as soon as reasonably possible, and it must have happened within the last 3 years.
At Harris Fowler we work on a “no win no fee” basis so you wont be charged anything if your claim is unsuccessful.
